A Country Cottage Sitting Room
Although South facing, this sitting room was originally very dark. Heavily varnished beams, painted brick hearth and quarry tiled window sills gave the room a very oppressive feel. The beams were stripped and then oiled to reveal the honey tones of the original wood. The brickwork around the inglenook and tiled window sills was removed and new wide wooden windowsills installed. Clean lines, a few bold accents and a combination of contemporary and traditional elements are key features. Light neutral tones with splashes of colour introduced through fabrics, glass, ceramics and artwork resulted in a light airy room which was truly transformed.
